Location

Shanghai has a population of over 20 million and is a city that enjoys a reputation as a famous historical region due to its long history as a foreign occupied port through much of the 1800s and early 1900s. But that was a long time ago, and Shanghai today is a booming, bustling, vibrant and ever-changing, relatively young city full of energy and glamour.

It is a mixture of oriental and western culture – bringing the best of both worlds together. In this city, European-style buildings can be seen standing alongside traditional Chinese structures and ancient temples. The Paris of the east, as it is well know, is a dynamic urban metropolis that is fast becoming the dominant destination in Asia for business and pleasure!

Your classmates on this program come from different countries and this creates a uniquely diverse environment for developing language and interpersonal skills. Your course consists of 20 language lessons per week as well as the chance to participate in many activities such as traditional handcrafts, sports, games, competitions, parties and excursions to local sites of historic and cultural interest.

Course & Teachers

On the first day of school, a placement test is conducted to determine your level of Chinese. There are 8 different levels, from total beginner through to advanced. The Director of the summer camp is responsible for your safety and comfort, along with the Head Coordinator of the Summer Camp. They are assisted by a team of professionals that consist of group coordinators, teachers and monitors. There will be a monitor responsible for every group of 8 students. The monitors coordinate the sports, activities and excursions, and they remain with the groups on a 24-hour basis and take care of any needs you and the other students might have.

Every teacher holds a university degree and is experienced in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The teachers use teaching methods that combine all aspects and skills of language such as grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, listening, reading, conversation and writing, in an interactive way that makes language learning productive and interesting.

After class, sports, cultural and social activities are arranged. This allows you to make new international friends, experience cultural activities together and practice your new language skills in real life situations.

Accommodation

You will be accommodated in a residential complex within 30 minutes walking distance from the school. The area is surrounded by convenience stores, restaurants and small shops and is conveniently located close to public transportation. The residential complex consists of apartments of varying sizes that can accommodated between 3 and 8 students in total. The apartments are simple and include fully-equipped kitchenettes as well as washing machines, TVs and air conditioning.

You may share a bedroom with one or two others close in age and of the same gender. A monitor will stay in the apartment with you providing 24 support and supervision. . The meals include breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks each day. Laundry service is offered once every two weeks.
