Getting There
Each of the programs we offer requires independent travel to the destination airport where you will be met by a school driver/chaperone. Most of our clients travel by themselves but some prefer to travel with family members. If you are going to be travelling by yourself and this is your first overseas trip you (or your parents) may be feeling a little anxious. This is perfectly normal but don't let it scare you off! The best way to deal with the prospect of travelling by yourself is to get as much information as you can about what to expect in transit. On this page, you'll find information that will help you determine if you are ready to travel to your program of choice, how to prepare for your travels and some of the issues you may encounter en route. If you still have questions or need additional information, don't hesitate to contact us. Each of The Learning Traveller employees has extensive travel experience. We have travelled into the destination city for all of our programs so we can comment on airport conditions as well as what to expect at passport control, baggage claim, etc. Review the travel requirments for your program of choice For each program we provide a program-specific page of detailed information on what airport you need to fly into, whether or not there are direct flights from North America to the destination airport and what connections, if any, you will need to make. We suggest that before you make a final decision to enroll in a particular program you review the Getting There information for your particular program of interest (you can find a Getting There link at the top of the program overview page). If you are comfortable with the travel requirements for your program then go ahead and make your booking. If you aren't comfortable let us know; we may be able to make some recommendations such as a program that has travel requirements better matched to your readiness, travel support services (such as unaccompanied minor) or even hook you up with other clients who are travelling to/from the same airports. Talk to people who have lots of travel experience In the months/weeks leading up to your program, we suggest that you review with your parents, or other experienced travellers, some of the issues you may encounter in your travels. The more you know about what to expect in transit, the more comfortable you will be, especially if something unexpected were to occur. It may help you to know that the majority of teens (95% or more) arrive at their destination city without any incident. For the roughly 5%, who do encounter the odd hitch along the way, it is usually the result of a delayed/missed flight or delayed/missing baggage. While these are inconveniences and can be unpleasant at the time, they are more than manageable situations if you know how to handle them. We'll provide specific information on how to handle these situatons in our comprehensive pre-departure package. In the meantime, if there are any travel-related issues we haven't addressed here don't hesitate to contact us; we are always happy to help!
